The Vermont History Museum will take part in Home Movie Day, an annual international celebration of amateur films and filmmaking, on Saturday, October 23rd. The event provides the opportunity for individuals and families to see and share their own home movies with an audience.
From 10 am to 12:20 pm participants can bring their 16mm, 8mm, or Super 8 films to the Museum to learn about archiving and preserving home movies. Archivists will check the condition of your films to make sure they can be projected and answer any questions you might have about how to care for them.
At 1:30 pm, participants will reconvene at the Savoy Theater in Montpelier, VT to view films on the big screen. The afternoon screening will include the premiere of the digitized version of The Epic Journey, shot by Allen Gilbert as he drove across the country in his VW Bus in 1970. Gilbert will attend the screening and offer live commentary.
Reservations are required and can be completed by emailing rachel.onuf@vermont.gov or calling (802) 622-4092.
