Hester Jeffrey: Temperance; Suffrage; Political Action

Hester JeffreyThe 1816 Farmington Meetinghouse will present “Hester Jeffrey: Temperance; Suffrage; Political Action,” a program set for Saturday, September 11th, at the Granger Homestead in Canandaigua, Ontario County, NY.

Jeffrey, a suffragist and political activist, organized the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in Rochester, the National Assn. of Colored Women’s Clubs, and was a friend and eulogist of Susan B. Anthony.

Beginning at 2 pm, Susan Goodier, author of No Votes for Women: The New York State Anti-Suffrage Movement (Univ. of Illinois Press, 2013) and professor at SUNY Oneonta specializing in U.S. women’s activism, especially suffrage activism from 1840 – 1920, will speak on Hester Jeffrey.

This event is made possible with the support of co-sponsors and a grant from Humanities New York.
