Juneteenth Celebration Set For Potsdam

June 14, 2021 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

Juneteenth Line Dancing 2020Black Lives Matter Potsdam NY will host the second Potsdam community-wide Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 19th. This event will celebrate the culture of African-Americans and provide a space for Black voices to be honored.

The public is invited to learn about Juneteenth and African-American culture through entertainment, brief educational presentations, heritage-rich traditional foods catered by Big Spoon Kitchen, dancing, and fun for all ages.

Juneteenth is a celebration to mark the day when the last remaining American slaves learned they were finally free from bondage.

The Juneteenth Committee extends an invitation to any Black person, artist (spoken, dance, visual, music, etc.) educator or storyteller, and organization who would be interested in sharing their talent or education relevant to Juneteenth and the African-American experience by participating in this year’s Juneteenth celebration, by contacting PotsdamJuneteenth@gmail.com.

This celebration will be held from 4 to 9 pm at the Ives Park Gazebo, located behind the Clarkson Inn at 1 Main Street in Potsdam. This program is free and open to the public, a Go Fund Me page for donations has been set up.
