New Water Pump Installed For Charles Baker Forest Equestrians

May 22, 2021 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

new well pump and the covered structure that houses itIn partnership with the New York State Plantation Walking Horse Club, DEC recently installed a new well pump to provide essential water for horses at the Moscow Hill Assembly Area on Charles E. Baker State Forest, the core of the popular 100-mile Brookfield Trail System in Madison County.

The former pump was in use for over 30 years and due for replacement, so the club volunteered to donate the new pump and required parts. DEC Operations staff in Sherburne installed the pump and built a roofed structure to provide cover for visitors.

The horse club has maintained an active volunteer stewardship agreement with DEC since the late 1990s, regularly donating time and materials to support maintenance and upgrades for the trail system and associated Moscow Hill Assembly and camping areas.
