Introductory Aviation History, Mechanics Classes

Northrup F-5 Tiger courtesy Empire State Aerosciences MuseumThe Empire State Aerosciences Museum in Glenville has announced three classes for students age 8-15 years old, focused on the history of aviation and how planes fly.

Classes will be limited to 10 students, and will be conducted in the museum’s outdoor airpark and/or Community Room on Saturdays, May 15th, 22nd and 29th from 1 to 2:30 pm. Each Saturday will also feature an “Open Cockpit” on a particular plane.

The first class on May 15th will be “History of Aviation.” The Open Cockpit will feature a Bell UH1 Huey (Vietnam era). The May 22nd class will be “Forces of Flight,” with the Open Cockpit looking at the Russian MIG 15 Fighter (Korea War era). The series will end on May 29th with “Different Parts of a Plane,” with the Open Cockpit looking at the Northrup F-5 Tiger (Top Gun).

Cost is $12 per student and reservations are required. For more information or to register call the museum at (518) 377-2191 ext. 10. The Empire State Aerosciences Museum is located at 250 Rudy Chase Drive, Glenville.
