St. Lawrence County Historical Association (SLCHA) has announced The History of Early Lighting: Pre-1850 through 1910, an exhibit curated by Carleton Stickney is now open to the public.
For thousands of years, artificial lighting was primitive, but improved gradually over time, thanks to the innovations of people dedicated to the goal of better lighting. This exhibit features many examples of pre-electric lighting, including candle and match holders, oil lamps, and lanterns. Early lighting accessories are also highlighted, such as candle molds, doilies, and lamp chimneys.
Located at 3 East Main Street in Canton, the SLCHA is open Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, and Friday, 10 am to 6 pm; closed Sunday and Monday.
