Several mastodons have been recovered in the Orange County area, the first in 1811 by American painter, soldier, scientist and naturalist Charles Willson Peale in Montgomery, Orange County.
Gary Keeton has participated in several exhumations of New York State mastodons. Beginning at 2 pm on Sunday, April 11th, Keeton will speak about the modern recovery of these creatures which roamed the area more than 10,000 years ago. Keeton’s talk “Mastodons of Orange County” is being presented by the Time and the Valleys Museum.
