Winter On Lake George: A Virtual Photography Exhibit

February 10, 2021 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

The Sembrich in Winter by Fred ThatcherThe Sembrich has announced the launch of A Winter at Bay View, a new online exhibit highlighting winter scenes by Lake George photographer Fred Thatcher.

Viewers can take a brief wintertime tour of Marcella Sembrich’s lakeside estate Bay View before heading south to explore the winter festivities in turn of the century Lake George Village. The exhibit is an addition to its current digital exhibition The Thatcher Photos.

Fred Thatcher was a notable Lake George Photographer who, along with his father Jule Thatcher, documented the history of the Lake George region in photographs from about 1880-1960. In 2010 his archive of photographic negatives was donated to the Bolton Historical Museum. This past summer The Sembrich digitized and preserved a portion of the collection which contained photos of Marcella Sembrich, her Bay View estate, her teaching studio (now The Sembrich), as well as her family and students.

A Winter at Bay View was curated by Caleb Eick and Lisa H. Hall and made possible by a kind loan of materials from The Historical Society of the Town of Bolton. This exhibit and others can be viewed on The Sembrich’s website.

For more information, visit the The Sembrich website, call (518) 644-2431 or email Office@TheSembrich.org.
