The Schuyler Mansion in Albany and Crailo State Historic site , across the Hudson River in Rensselaer, NY, have announced “Salutations of the Season!,” a virtual Twelfth Night celebration set for Wednesday, January 6th, 2021.
From 6 to 8 pm, the event will be available across multiple social media platforms and will feature festive traditions of the 17th and 18th century. The night will feature holiday preparations, food and other demonstrations, performances and selecting the Twelfth Night King.
Twelfth Night, or the Feast of Epiphany, was one of the traditional holidays celebrated by the Dutch and English of 17th and 18th century New York. Falling on January 6th, Twelfth Night was the final holiday of the season, marked by unsurpassed feasting and revelry.
The public can hold their own Twelfth Night party by purchasing a “Take-Home Twelfth Night” kit, which will be available at the Fort Orange General Store for $20 in January, and revel in this feast day as the Schuyler and Van Rensselaer families did.
On Tuesday, January 5th, “how to” demonstrations will be available to help prepare for a Twelfth Night celebration. Revelry and wassail toasts begin on Wednesday, January 6th with music performances and more.
