Featured Adirondack Hike: Hurricane Mountain Firetower

hurricane mountain courtesy adirondack atlasThe trail up Hurricane Mountain, in Keene, Essex County, ascends approximately 2,000 feet over 3.4 miles to the Fire Tower located in a designated historic area on the summit, within the Hurricane Mountain Wilderness.

From the Route 9N Trailhead, this route is characterized as having a number of steep, rough sections interspersed with more moderate gradients. The first mile has been rerouted and contains a number of footbridges.

Ascent: 2,000′

Trailhead Directions (Map)

From the junction of Route 73 and Route 9N proceed east toward Elizabethtown. The parking area is 3.5 miles on the right, the trailhead is on the left.
