NYS Archaeology Research Program In Lake Luzerne

September 14, 2020 by Editorial Staff 1 Comment

hadley luzerne historical societyThe Hadley-Lake Luzerne Historical Society is set to host a presentation by Charles Vandrei, a NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Historic Preservation Officer in the Division of Lands and Forests, on Thursday, September 17th at 7 pm.

Vandrei will present a powerpoint overview of New York State archaeology research, from before Europeans arrived to 20th century Cold War installations.

From Native American underwater sites to historic shipwrecks, New York State is home to a treasure trove of artifacts. Vandrei works both in the field and in the files to document and share our past.

This will be an in-person presentation at the Hadley Park Pavilion, located at the corner of Stony Creek Road and Maple Street. Social distancing is required. For more information call (518) 769-2616.

Will C. Vandrei’s presentation include anything about Rockwell Falls and the dramatic overhanging rock formation? This spectacular site is featured in my recently published book (see TAIL FEATHER. ADVENTURES OF A MOHAWK PADDLER ON THE RIVER-THAT-FLOWS-TWO-WAYS). This 17th century historical novel is described in this issue of NEW YORK ALMANACK. The cascade and cliff is of keen interest to me, and I would love to learn more about its history. Ray E Phillips.
