The Oneida County History Center has announced a free virtual lunchtime lecture by Dr. Peter Van Cleave, looking at Adrian van der Kemp and his work translating the records of the New Netherland colony.
From 1817 to 1822, François Adrian van der Kemp of Oldenbarneveld translated the records of the New Netherland colony. His efforts, however, were bogged down by the partisan politics endemic of New York during the Early American Republic as well as the politics of historical memory.
Peter Van Cleave is Clinical Assistant Professor of History and the Director of Online Programs in the School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies at Arizona State University. His research interests include the Dutch-American Atlantic, the Age of Revolution, and the political and religious history of the Early American Republic.
This presentation is set for Wednesday, August 19th from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. To view the stream or for more information, visit the Oneida County History Center website. A recording of the presentation will be available on the History Center YouTube channel by August 24, 2020.
