Geneva Light Opera (GLO) is set to present a retrospective of its recent work in Geneva’s historic Smith Opera House, in addition to digital recordings made by the cast from this summer’s cancelled production of Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” from “lockdown” locations across the USA, on July 26th, at 3 pm.
The program will be moderated by GLO’s Artistic and General Director Gena Rangel and past and present staff, including “La Cenerentola” director Steve Vaughan.
The program will offer excerpts from the following GLO productions:
“Die Fledermaus” and “Don Giovanni” conducted by James Blachly, directed by Phil Lauriat in 2016 and 2017, (with fight scenes by Vaughan); “The Barber of Seville” conducted by James Blachly, directed by Benjamin Spierman in 2018; and “The Marriage of Figaro” conducted by James Blachly, directed by Marie Allyn King in 2019.
Featured singers performing in these excerpts include sopranos Michelle Seipel and Alexis Cregger, mezzo soprano Sarah Nordin, tenor Alexey Kukharski, baritones Jimi James and Adelmo Guidarelli, and basses Tyler Putnam and Valerian Ruminiski.
The program will also feature a presentation of a parody of the Act 2 Sextet from Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” recorded from various lockdowns by the principals of this summer’s cast: Baritone Brian Keith Johnson, tenor Chance Jonas O’Toole, mezzo soprano Sarah Nordin, soprano Michelle Seipel and mezzo Mariami Bekauri, and bass Tyler Putnam, with pianist Elizaberh Rodgers conducted by Richard Cordova.
The individual recordings of the separate parts of this popular ensemble from Rossini’s masterpiece were edited together by John Rangel, Richard Cordova and Llewellyn Lafford with texts by Geoffrey Riggs and Elizabeth Hubbell.
