Portions of the New York State Canal system are scheduled to open on Friday, June 26, 2020 at 7:00 a.m. for the 2020 navigation season.
Major construction and maintenance at several locks continues.
Erie Canal locks opening Friday including locks 1-7, 21-25 and 28B to 35. Locks 26-28A are expected to open July 3rd; 7 -18 are expected to open July 20th; and locks 19 and 20 on August 20th.
Full schedules for all canals in the system, including the Champlain, Oswego, and Cayuga-Seneca Canals can be found online.
This year’s Path Through History is being held online corridor-wide from June 15th to July 4th. I Love NY’s Path through History Weekends showcase the fascinating stories and events that helped shape the Empire State and the nation.
The Erie Canal Museum’s Brick-a-Boat Canal Boat Contest will be held online this year. The public is invited to get creative and design a canal boat using construction toys. Submit photos of your creation by July 19th.
Flight of Five Lock Tender Tours will be starting July 1st. Enjoy a 1½ hour narrated walking tour of the Erie Canal Flight of Five Locks. Proper social distancing standards will be observed with a limit of no more than 10 visitors on a tour at one time. Locks District Tours is operated by the Lockport Locks Heritage District Corporation. Reservations are required.
