Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site has announced a virtual presentation by Derrick Pratt of the Erie Canal Museum, who will discuss the Erie Canal’s many connections to the earliest days of professional baseball.
As part of a double-header of online presentations at the end of June, Pratt will use stories from some of the game’s biggest stars and others long forgotten to discover the connections that the canal has to the national past-time.
This program will be held via Webex, and is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24th at 6:30 pm. A link to the Webex meeting can be obtained by emailing SchoharieCrossing@parks.ny.gov.
On Tuesday, June 23rd at 6:30 pm an online program “Dam that Creek!” will consider the first dam across the Schoharie Creek for the Erie Canal and how it provided the means for barges to navigate its waters.
Schoharie Crossing is offering online programs while the Visitor Center is closed during the ongoing pandemic. The site grounds remain open for appropriate socially distant recreational use from dawn until dusk daily.
For more information, call the Visitor Center at (518) 829-7516, or email SchoharieCrossing@parks.ny.gov.
