In recognition of the 50th Earth Day on April 22nd, 2020, the New York State Archives is showcasing records that document the climate, pollution control and abatement, water supply management, and forest preservation and management in New York State.
These records are predominantly from the Department of Environmental Conservation — also celebrating its 50th anniversary in April 2020 — and its predecessor, the Conservation Department.
You can explore the documents and learn more through a selection of articles in New York Archives magazine highlighting stories from the environment.
