The plan for the Erie Canal was a tremendous undertaking when construction began in 1817. When the digging commenced, the vastness of the landscape it would cut through became the obstacle.
David Brooks from Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will be at Galway Public Library on Saturday for a presentation about the construction and environmental history of the Erie Canal.
“Through the Mire” will take a look at how the building of the canal in the early 1820s, and its use in the decade after, has impacted the environment across New York State.
This event will take place at Galway Public Library on Saturday, February 22nd at 11 am. The Library is located at 2112 East Street in Galway. For information about this program, call the Library at (518) 882-6385.
