Johnson Hall Holiday Open House

December 2, 2019 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

Johnson Hall Holiday Open HouseJohnson Hall was the 1763 Georgian estate of Sir William Johnson and Molly Brant and their family. Sir William Johnson (1715 – 1774) was the single largest landowner and among the most influential individuals in the colonial Mohawk Valley.

The main house and flanking stonehouses interpret the Johnson family and 18th century life through guided tours of the period room settings, educational programs and special events. In conjunction with the City of Johnstown’s Colonial Stroll holiday activities, Johnson Hall is set to hold its Holiday Open House on Friday, December 6 from 5 to 8:30 pm. Johnson Hall will be decorated for the holiday season and will feature live 18th century music performed by Liaison Plaisantes. Reenactors will staff several rooms to interpret 18th century life. Homemade mulled cider will be served at the Stonehouse fireplace, and the museum shop will offer 20% off on holiday shopping that evening.

The evening’s event is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted and will be earmarked for the continued restoration efforts of Sir William and Molly Brant’s historic home.

This year’s event is co-sponsored by Johnson Hall State Historic Site, the Friends of Johnson Hall, Goderie’s Tree Farm, Hewitt’s Garden Center and Antonucci’s Foods.

Visitors are reminded that, in order to protect the new reproduction floor cloth now installed in the center hall, hob-nailed shoes, spiked heels or any other type of damaging shoe may no longer to worn inside Johnson Hall.

Johnson Hall State Historic Site is located at 139 Hall Avenue in historic Johnstown, just off West State Street (State Highway 29 West). For more information email JohnsonHall@parks.ny.gov.
