The Rome Historical Society Annual Dinner has been set for Saturday, November 9th at the Delta Lake Inn, 8524 Fish Hatchery Road in Rome, NY. Cocktail hour begins at 6 pm, with the Dinner and Program beginning at 7 pm.
At this year’s dinner the Society will award the Medal of the Order of 1777 to Peter Leonard. The Medal of the Order of 1777 is the Society’s highest award and given annually to the person who “in conduct of life and effort, exemplifies the highest charter purposes of the Society, the finest virtues of citizenship and the ever-reliant qualities of the true patriot. This person is as worthy as the unconquered defenders of Fort Stanwix were in their time and circumstances.”
A native Roman, Leonard has authored ten books including Rome Revisited, Griffiss Air Force Base, and Rome Through Time. A local historian, with an affection for the Civil War and Rome’s Fire Department, he served as a member of the Rome Historical Society’s Board of Trustees from 2014-2016.
Still active today in several other community organizations, Leonard is also well known for his collection of local memorabilia, including his former glass plate negative collection and for his research into paranormal history. Through his work including many local paranormal investigations, Leonard and his team have helped raised thousands of dollars for museums, historical societies and historic sites all across central New York.
Tickets are $40 for Historical Society members and $50 for non-members.
