Albany Book Fest Bringing Big Name Authors, Local Writers

albany book festival 2019The 2nd Albany Book Festival, hosted by the New York State Writers Institute at the University at Albany, is set for Sat., September 14.  Featured authors include National Book Award winner Joyce Carol Oates, Pulitzer Prize winner Eric Foner, Jamaica Kincaid, Dani Shapiro, Madhur Jaffrey, Sylvia Day, Jonathan Santlofer, Will Schwalbe, Harold Holzer.

Also on hand will be dozens of other critically acclaimed and bestselling authors on a diverse range of genres including history, memoir, cooking, gardening, romance, depression, running, and mental health, plus more than 100 local authors and exhibitors. All events are free and open to the public.

The festival will also include “in conversation” events with pairs of authors onstage; panel discussions with up and coming writers from Africa, notable Latina and Young Adult authors; book signings and writing workshops; and a yoga event for children. An Albany Book Festival tote bag will be given away to the first 1,000 attendees through the door.

“We are building on the resounding success of our inaugural event last fall, which drew 5,000 book lovers to campus,” Writers Institute Director Paul Grondahl said in an announcement sent to the press.

The Albany Book Festival will be held from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday, September 14, on the University’s Uptown Campus, 1400 Washington Avenue.

Since the Writers Institute was founded in 1983 by author William Kennedy it has brought more than 2,000 authors, poets, film and theatre professionals, and newsmakers to Albany for free pubic events.
