Corning Museum Hot Glass Roadshow In Utica

glass blowing demonstrationThe Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute is set to host Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG), who will give live glassmaking demonstrations daily at noon, 1, 2, and 6 pm, from August 2-11, on the front lawn of the Museum of Art.

In association with the Museum of Art exhibition, “Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection,” the CMoG’s skilled technicians demonstrate complex hot glassmaking techniques.

Special Beyond the Bench talks where glassmakers present special tours of Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection, followed by glassblowing demonstrations will occur August 2 through 3 and 9 through 11.

The Fire & Ice Party, set for 7:30 pm Friday, August 9, will feature glassmaking demonstrations, food, cash bar, entertainment by Fire Magick, and a live auction of decorative glass pieces. Tickets are $25 for MWPAI members, $30 general admission.

“Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection” on view through September 8, features more than 60 artworks, spanning more than 30 years of the artist’s prolific career and focusing on Tiffany’s brilliant stained-glass windows, iridescent floral vases, shimmering lamps, and accessories highlighting masterworks never before presented in a comprehensive exhibition.

The Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute is located at 310 Genesee St, Utica. More information is available online.
