The next Brown Bag Lunch program at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association has been set for noon on May 16th, at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association. The talk will focus on teacher, world traveler, and photographer James Ricalton, of Waddington.
James Ricalton taught school for more than twenty years, wrote extensively about his adventures in countries rarely visited by people from the United States, and became a noted photographer of his time. Recognized for his daring, he took tens of thousands of stereographic images in as many as fifty countries. He was also a hunter and took many pictures in Africa and Asia on trophy hunts.
Roger Bailey and Rita Goldberg, both former faculty at St. Lawrence University, have been researching Ricalton for several years. They have developed the current Ricalton exhibit at the SLCHA and are the authors of a forthcoming series of articles on Ricalton in the SLCHA history journal, The Quarterly.
The St. Lawrence County Historical Association is located at 3 East Main St., Canton. Brown Bag Lunches are free and open to the public.
