October 18, 2018 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

David Bayne Master Furniture ConservatorThe Schoharie County Historical Society is set to host a conservation lecture and workshop led by furniture conservator David Bayne on Saturday, October 20th. The program will take place at 1 pm in the Badgley Museum Annex at the Old Stone Fort Museum Complex.

Since 1992, Bayne has been the Furniture Conservator for the New York State Bureau of Historic Sites located at the Peebles Island Resource Center in Waterford, NY. He has previously work for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, the US Department of State, the Shelburne Museum and the Winterthur Museum, in addition to taking part in numerous symposiums, lectures, workshops and published studies throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.

Bayne will share some of his vast knowledge and experience with participants at the lecture and workshop, as well as sharing proven methods and strategies to restore items and prevent future problems before they start.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own items, including decorative arts, furniture, textiles, books, artwork and more, to the program to receive item specific advice from a master in the field.

The lecture and workshop are being offered free of charge thanks to a grant from the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (FAIC). FAIC provides grant funding as part of their ongoing commitment to supporting conservation education, research and outreach activities.

The Old Stone Fort Museum Complex is located in the village of Schoharie at 145 Fort Road.

For more information on this and other events, contact the museum by phone at (518) 295-7192 or visit their website.
