Barn Quilt Class at TAUNY in Canton

October 9, 2018 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

Pat Dominie quilt makingThe Town of Colton’s Tourism & Beautification Committee is set to present a ‘How-To’ Barn Quilt Class on November 1-3, 2018 at The TAUNY Center located at 53 Main Street in Canton, NY.

This class is being held in conjunction with the 2018 Artists’ Studio Tour across St. Lawrence County on November 3-4 organized by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.

By holding the class at The TAUNY Center, which is a stop on the Studio Tour, the public will be able to observe and learn about barn quilt painting during the class. And there will be a selection of barn quilts available at The TAUNY Center for the public to purchase. Enthusiasts also can inquire about ordering barn quilts, signing up for future classes, or signing up for painting sessions if already an experienced barn quilt painter.

The overall goal of the three-day class is to introduce participants to barn quilts and to build confidence in painting them. Ruth McWilliams, as the Town of Colton Tourism Coordinator, is the lead presenter. She will provide an overview about barn quilts from inspiration to installation and guide participants in painting their own barn quilts. Through hands-on activities participants will learn the basic steps and leave with a completed barn quilt measuring 2×2 feet.

The class is limited to ten participants due to space constraints and in order for presenters to provide guidance and assistance to participants as needed. Anyone interested in attending the class must contact Ruth at ruth@catamountlodge.com or (315) 262-2450 by October 24 to register and to discuss possible designs. Participation is on a first-come, first-service basis. Priority is being given to first-time painters; however, after October 24 the class will be open to returning painters.

Registration fee is $25 and is to be paid during the class. Participants must plan to attend all three days.
