Adirondack Diversity Research Focus of Historians Day

Adirondack History MuseumThe Adirondack History Museum has announced their annual Historian’s Day event has been set for Friday, October 12th, from 10 am to 2 pm. This years theme is “Researching Diversity in the Adirondacks” and will feature three guest presenters.

Presenters Don Papson, Melissa Otis, and Margaret Bartley will discuss techniques and practices for researching minority populations of the past in the Adirondacks. Papson, one of the founders of the North Star Underground Railroad Museum, will discuss Adirondackers and the Anti-Slavery Movement. Otis, whose doctoral studies focused on Native American history, will discuss Native American material culture. Bartley, a local historian, will discuss compiling minority data for accessibility and utilization.

The cost is $10 for museum members and town historians, and $15 everyone else. Lunch is included in the workshop fee. RSVPs are requested by calling or emailing the museum. Participants will also have an opportunity to tour the museum one last time.
