A guided walk focusing on the history of the area around the Lake Champlain Bridge has been set for Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 1 pm.
This event is the first of two “Points of Interest” guided bridge walks offered this year by the Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison, Vermont, and Crown Point State Historic Site in Crown Point, New York. Site administrator Elsa Gilbertson (VT) and Thomas Hughes (NY), historian and president of the Crown Point State Historic Site friends group, lead the tour.
Attendees will meet at the Crown Point State Historic Site museum on the New York end of the bridge to start. Allow at least two hours for this walk back and forth across the bridge. Learn about the historic and archaeological importance of this crossing on Lake Champlain.
The fee is $6 for adults, free for children under 15, and includes admission to the Crown Point and Chimney Point museums. Attendees are encouraged to wear a hat and bring water.
The second bridge tour is September 16 at 1 pm, starting at the Chimney Point State Historic Site museum, in Addison, Vermont.
The Crown Point State Historic Site is located at the New York foot of the bridge. Call (518) 597-3666 for the Crown Point museum.
