The Battle of New Orleans, a well-known battle of the War of 1812, is enshrouded in mythology. In this free public lecture, historian and author Donald Hickey examines the leading myths of the battle. He explains where the myths came from and why they are so durable.

As an award-winning author, Don is called “the dean of 1812 scholarship” by the New Yorker magazine. Professor Hickey teaches history at Wayne State College in Nebraska. He is the author of eleven books and more than a hundred articles on the War of 1812 and its causes. Don is best known for his book The War of 1812: A Forgotten Conflict (Bicentennial edition, 2012).
