Albany Institute Hosting Craft Beer Event

Hudson Valley HopsOn Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm, the Albany Institute of History & Art in Albany is set to host the seventh annual Hudson Valley Hops, a regional craft beer tasting.

Located in downtown Albany, Hudson Valley Hops is an opportunity for the community to sample the flavors of Capital Region craft brewers, see brewing and distilling artifacts from the Albany Institute’s collection, meet industry experts, and receive a commemorative glass. This year, the fundraiser will feature a session beer invitational contest and more.

Participating brewers this year include the Beer Diviner, Brown’s Brewing, Chatham Brewing, C. H. Evans Brewing, Davidson Brothers, Fort Orange Brewing, Green Wolf Brewing Company, Northway Brewing Company, Rare Form Brewing, S & S Brewery, and Shmaltz Brewing Company.

Hudson Valley Hops 2018 will feature a one-time blind taste test featuring session beers from craft brewers in the Hudson Valley, hosted by Steve Barnes of Times Union’s Table Hopping blog, with Jess Briganti, Weekday AM Weather Anchor for News10 ABC; Spectrum News/AlbanyArchives’ Matt Malette; and Deanna Fox, local food writer as judges. Members of the public will be able to participate in choosing the People’s Choice Award.

Attendees will hear from David Mulholland, whose family helped shape brewing history in Troy as Stoll’s Brewing, during a program called Brewing Beer in a Melting Pot. Also available this year is a new specialty pint glass featuring an historic brewing label from the Albany Institute’s collection. It is the fourth in a set that is available for purchase in the Museum Shop.

Tickets are available online or at the door. Cost in advance is $35 non-members/ $30 members. Cost at the door is $40 non-members/ $35 members.
