A new book by Kim McCartney, James Richmond, and Karen Staulters, Milton, New York: A New Town in a New Nation (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, 2018) takes a look at the growth of the shire town of Saratoga County from its first settlement on the eve of the Revolutionary War to the conclusion of the Civil War.
The book offers the story of pioneers, farmers, entrepreneurs, politicians, people of color, industrialists, mill workers, teachers, and soldiers.
The concept for this book began with the premise that the 225th anniversary of the Town of Milton in Saratoga County should not pass by unnoticed. The approach throughout is to provide new information on the early settlers of Milton and surrounding towns in the context of regional and national themes.
To provide this context, each chapter includes background information pertinent to the topic under discussion. The book is extensively documented.
A book launch event will be held at the Saratoga County Historical Society (Brookside Museum) in Ballston Spa on Thursday April 26 at 7 pm. Signed books will be available for sale for $18. Profits from all direct sales will benefit Brookside. The book is also available on Amazon.com.
