Pete Roberts, member of Friends of Historic Kingston (FHK), will host the last of three noontime conversations in the FHK gallery June 16.
The conversations will honor the centennial commemoration of World War I and Kingston’s part in it. Memorabilia from the FHK Archives, the William Anderson Carl Collection, and the Samuel Bernstein Collection are featured including photographs and related materials that depict Kingston’s role in 1917-1918. The American Legion (Post 150) made a special loan of the iconic artwork Columbia by Edwin Howland Blashfield (1919).
Roberts has researched Kingston’s part in World War I and has created a DVD based on that research, which is featured in the current gallery exhibit.
The United States joined the war effort against the German Empire on April 6, 1917, two and a half years after the start of the war on July 28, 1914.
The Noontime Conversations Series covers a variety of topics presented by several guest speakers – Pete Roberts, Walt Witkowski, Hugh Reynolds, and Martin Lennox.
The talks all begin at noon and take place in the Friends of Historic Kingston Gallery with the current exhibit, “Treasures,” serving as the backdrop. The talks are open to the public. Donations are welcome.
The Friends of Historic Kingston Gallery is located on the corner of Wall Street and Main Street. For more information, call (845) 339-0720, or visit their website.
