Study of Style: Early Interpretations of Vanderpoel House

July 7, 2016 by Editorial Staff Leave a Comment

Installation View A Study of Style, Masters and Callan GalleriesFrom Hudson Valley Furniture (1937) to Decorative Paperweights (1947), to American Modern Art (1955), the Vanderpoel House exhibited an array of objects aimed at inspiring an interest in history and preservation within Columbia County. Some of the loaned pieces were eventually gifted into Columbia County Historical Society’s permanent collection where they remain the enjoyment of future generations.

CCHS Curator Anna Thompson has specially selected works from the Columbia County Historical Society’s permanent collections with illustrations of earlier Vanderpoel installations, “A Study of Style” is an introspective look at the early usage and interpretation of the Vanderpoel House after the property was purchased by the Historical Society in 1925.

The exhibition is currently on view at the James Vanderpoel House, Masters and Callan Galleries, located at 16 Broad Street in Kinderhook.
