The Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM) has issued a call for proposals for its annual meeting planned for Philadelphia this October. The meeting theme is Building Communities: Embracing Diversity in All We Do.
MAAM represents museum professionals, organizations, institutions and museum service providers. The MAAM annual meeting is an important gathering of museum stakeholders and provides an opportunity to share and exchange ideas.
Proposals are being sought on one of the following topics:
- Creating pathways for new audiences
- Engaging community members
- Reflecting diversity in boards, staff, programming, collections, and/or outreach
- Accessing new fiscal resources
- Social justice issues in museums
The annual meeting is expected to be an opportunity to introduce theoretical or philosophical frameworks that explore daily issues shared by all. Sessions should present differing perspectives that constructively embrace controversy, enliven the session, and reflect the conference theme. You do not need to be the “expert” to propose or organize a session. Vendors are also welcome to submit proposals, but all panels should include at least one museum professional. The MAAM Program Committee will review all proposals.
Proposals must be submitted by 5 PM EST April 2, 2015 and will be reviewed by the MAAM Conference Program Committee. All sessions are 75 minutes. Please refer to the attached “Guidelines and Requirements for Conference Presenters.” Only complete submissions will be reviewed. Decisions regarding the selection of sessions will be e-mailed to the session chair by May 15, 2015.
