Museum Planning, Travel Grants Available

February 10, 2015 by Editorial Staff 2 Comments

MANY LogoThe New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) has provided $102,000 to be distributed by the Museum Association of New York (MANY) between January 1, 2015 and June 30, 2015.

During this period MANY will offer “Mini-Grants” and “Travel Grants.” This program replaces Get Ready, Get Set, Go! the Grants for Museum Advancement.

Mini-Grants of up to $5,000 are available to work on a modest planning or implementation project. While a match is not required, applicants are encouraged to show other contributions to their project through staff time or other funds. Applicants must be able to articulate why this project is a current priority for their museum, and how it moves the organization forward. The grants cannot be used as a match for a NYSCA application, nor duplicate any NYSCA request. Grant funds may also not be used to support the salary of current staff or for any capital projects.

Projects may involve, but are not limited to: board, audience, membership, or program development; strategic or long-range planning; staff training, marketing, exhibitions, collections, or museum education. Traditional consultancies as well as mentoring relationships are welcome. Deadlines are February 16 and May 1, 2015. More information on Mini-Grants is available online.

In addition to mini-grants, NYSCA and MANY Travel Grants are available to provide museum staff and volunteers the opportunity to expand their horizons through the support of travel to other museums or professional conferences and workshops. Institutions may apply for grants of up to $1,000 to support travel and/or registration fees for single or multiple participants between January 1 and June 30, 2015. You may submit one application for multiple participants to partake of the same professional development opportunity. More information on Travel Grants can be found here.

We in Windham, NY are trying to set up a museum in a Chapel dining room. The Chapel is on the National Historic Preservation list. We are wondering if there is any funding for work to be done on the Chapel and in the dining room to help us set up the museum…such as shelving, etc.
Thank you very much- Margaret Davis
