Every night from September through December in 2015, from 7:00 pm to midnight, Battery Park in Lower Manhattan will be transformed into a living open-air light exhibition dubbed “Origins – Light on New York’s Founders”.
A new video about the event was recently released and features Henry Hudson, Petrus Stuyvesant, Manuel, Catalina Tricot, Asser Levy and Griet Reyniers.
According to the organizer’s new website, which features a “Founders Hall of Fame” and details about the free event:
We are commissioning innovative light artists to create a series of projections, holograms and light sculptures of New York’s founders. Their eventful life stories will be projected around the park on buildings, fences, walls, air shafts, trees and the Hudson River.
Accompanied by lively recordings based on the experiences of the early settlers and the Munsee, Manhattan’s American Indians, Origins will provide visitors with a dynamic step back in time to the beginnings of New Amsterdam / early New York.
Additional ideas for historic early settlers are being sought as are sponsors. To make a suggestion or for more information contact info@nyorigins.org.
