The recent two year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy serves as a reminder of how vulnerable cultural organizations can be when confronted by natural disasters.
CultureAID (Culture Active in Disasters) was established to keep New York City’s arts and cultural communities better connected in time of disaster – whether natural or manmade. The network is a volunteer-based communication system, designed to systematize messages about preparedness as well as recovery-related information and resources.
Joining is free and open to any arts and culture organization with a constituency, including nonprofits, fiscally-sponsored groups, and informal entities.
To register, click here to complete the form. Once you register, you will receive an automated email message confirming the registration. After that, your contact info will be added to the CultureAID network database, to be activated in time of disaster.
Should you wish to play a more active role in the network, CultureAID members are invited to join one of the Working Groups focused on a particular issue. For more information about Working Groups, contact CultureAID co-chair Maria Villafranca (New York Foundation for the Arts) at mariav@nyfa.org.
