On Thursday, September 11th from 6 pm to 8 pm, the Albany Institute of History & Art will host a special launch of Craig Gravina and Alan McLeod’s new book Upper Hudson Valley Beer. Author Craig Gravina will give a presentation about the book and Remarkable Liquids, the area’s only craft-focused beer distributor, will be on hand to provide samples of some of the best beer made in our region.
Attendees will savor learning about the Upper Hudson Valley’s long and full-bodied brewing tradition and the opportunity to connect its past with its present.
Upper Hudson Valley Beer, published in August by The History Press, is a 400-year history of brewing and beer-making in our region. The authors investigate local beer history from the arrival of the first Dutch explorers and brewers, through the rise of the great commercial ale industry, past the dark years of Legs Diamond and Prohibition, to the renaissance of microbrewery movement in 1980s and the rise of the new crop of craft brewers in the twenty-first century. It is illustrated with nearly 100 images, 35 in color, and many from the Albany Institute’s collections. Copies of the book are available for purchase at the Albany Institute’s museum shop and wherever books are sold.
Tickets to this event cost $30 per person or $50 per couple and include one copy of the book and samples of beer (ages 21 and over). For more information and to purchase tickets, call Andrew Alliger at (518) 463-4478, ext. 412 or go online to www.albanyinstitute.org.
