The Adirondack History Center will conclude its summer lecture series with a showing of the documentary The Mountains Will Wait for You at 7 pm on Tuesday evening, August 26 at the museum in Elizabethtown, NY.
The film tells the story of the first woman to climb the 46 High Peaks and a founder of the Adirondack 46ers hiking club. Grace Hudowalski was born in Ticonderoga and recently East Dix, one of the 46 High Peaks, was renamed Grace Peak in her honor.
“Grace had a remarkable tradition of nurturing and corresponding with so many other climbers,” notes museum director Diane O’Connor. “Her encouragement and care is legendary. We frequently find the exhibit room filled with visitors recounting their own memories of Grace and the support she provided them.”
A reception will follow the screening. Advance reservations for the program are not required. Admission is $8 for the general public, $5 for museum members. The Adirondack History Center Museum presents lectures and programs on topics relevant to the Adirondacks each Tuesday evening in July and August. This season’s series, as well as two of the museum’s exhibits, focus on the growth of tourism in the mid-20th century.
The Adirondack History Center Museum is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. every day until October 13. Admission is $5, with discounts for seniors and students. Children under 6 are admitted free. Additional information may be found at www.adkhistorycenter.org, or by calling 518-873-6466.
