The hand-written, photocopied flyer from 1980 asks a question and offers a response: “Gay at UB? Well, you are not alone!!”
The word “not” is underlined four times.
The flyer, as well as other materials in the University at Buffalo Libraries’ latest online archive, “LGBT at UB,” documents lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history at the university from the 1970s to the late 1990s.
Compiled by Nissa Thor, a graduate student in the Department of Library and Information Studies, the archive contains articles from UB’s student newspaper, The Spectrum; documents from student groups such as the Gay Liberation Front (from the 1970s); yearbook images and other materials.
UB Libraries is accepting materials that relate to the university’s LGBT community. If you would like to donate, email the University Archives at lib-archives@buffalo.edu.
LGBT at UB is part of UB Libraries’ digital collections, which includes 69 archives that range from the university’s prized James Joyce collection to its unparalleled Museum of Neuroanatomy, better known as the Brain Museum.
