Call for Proposals:
2014 Conference on New York State History

November 25, 2013 by Editorial Staff 2 Comments

Burr's Atlas (Published 1839, c 1829)The Conference on New York State History is seeking proposals for the 2014 conference to be held in Poughkeepsie, New York, at Marist College.

Presentations may consider any aspect and time period of New York State’s history. Conference sponsors are especially interested in proposals that highlight the role that partnerships among historical and cultural organizations can play in promoting better public understanding of New York State history.

The Conference on New York State History is an annual meeting of academic and public historians, librarians and archivists, educators, publishers, and other interested individuals who come together to discuss topics and issues related to the people of New York State in historical perspective and to share information and ideas regarding historical research, programming, and the networking of resources and services.

What to submit:
● Completed proposal form (Individual Proposal Form or Session Proposal Form available online)

● Description – no longer than 300 words – of presentation, session, panel/roundtable discussion, or workshop. Include a brief discussion of sources, methodology, and argument.

All proposals must be received by January 7, 2014, at 5:00 pm. The Program Committee will meet to consider proposals in mid-January. Applicants will be notified immediately thereafter. Submit proposals to historyconference@nysha.org

Presentation formats may include:

● Presentation sessions (Chair and 3 presenters; 75 minutes)

● Panel/Roundtable discussion sessions (Chair/Moderator and 3-4 panelists; 75 minutes)

● Workshops and practical sessions (workshops 3-5 hours; practical sessions 75 minutes)

● Individual presentations (25 minutes)

Preference will be given to full session proposals. We encourage presenters to take a dynamic approach, including the use of visual and audio aids, audience participation, and discussions, rather than solely reading a paper.

Additional questions should be directed to  historyconference@nysha.org

The Conference on New York State History accepts registrations through the RegOnline program (Registration begins shortly; go to
http://www.nysha.org/nysha/for_teachers/cnysh).

The New York State Historical Association is sponsoring the Conference in collaboration with the New York State Archives Partnership Trust and New York State Museum. The conference is co-sponsored by Hudson River Valley Institute.

Have others had any luck downloading the Session Proposal Form from the conference website? (http://www.nysha.org/nysha/for_teachers/cnysh)

It comes up as a string of odd characters for me. Individual Proposal form works fine.
