Former Palisades Interstate Park Commission Executive Director and New York State Parks Commissioner Carol Ash has been elected to serve a three-year term on the Palisades Parks Conservancy Board of Directors.
During her career in the fields of natural and cultural resources preservation, Carol Ash has served as the first director of the Office of Environmental Policy and Management for the Port Authority of NY and NJ, the NYC Regional Director of the NYS DEC, the PIPC Executive Director, and the NY State Parks Commissioner.
As NYS Director of The Nature Conservancy, Ash served as an advocate during the effort to purchase nearly 21,000 acres of land in the Hudson Highlands to create Sterling Forest State Park. As Parks Commissioner, assisted in efforts to create the Walkway Over the Hudson, which has since become one of the most popular parks in the state. After leaving her position as Parks Commissioner, Carol helped found the NY Alliance for Parks to assist in privately fund the restoration and repair of NYS Parks failing infrastructure.
During her time as PIPC Executive Director, Ash expedited the Highlands Conservation Act, oversaw the construction of visitor centers for Sterling Forest, the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, and the Fort Montgomery Historic Site, expanded PIPC fundraising via the creation of the Palisades Parks Conservancy, and added thousands of acres.
Carol Ash is currently the President of the Carey Center for Global Good, which according to a statement to the press “brings together creative people to address the pressing challenges of the day.”
A 501(c )(3) non-profit corporation, the Conservancy was launched twelve years ago to raise awareness and funds for the Palisades Interstate Park Commission heritage sites, parks, organized camps, trails, beaches, and docks.
