Hudson River Valley Ramble Begins This Weekend

The Hudson River Valley Ramble, now in its 14th year, brings people outside on four weekends – September 7-8, 14-15, 21-22 and 28-29 – to enjoy the Hudson Valley’s cultural heritage and scenic beauty.

More than 200 Hudson River Valley Ramble events include guided hikes, cycling and kayaking tours, historic site walks, festivals and river explorations. Some of the suggested events are below, add your own favorite in the comments below, or find more on the Ramble website.

Here are some of the events happening this weekend:

• Experience real Hudson River “back country” on the Moodna Marsh Kayak Tour (9/7, 1:30 PM) with Storm King Adventure Tours. Moodna Creek Marsh provides beautiful calm waters, great scenery, wildlife and a sense of remoteness. This is the perfect trip for beginners or seasoned paddlers.
• Clearwater Educators will take you into the water to catch fish in the “magic hour” of sunset during Sunset Seining and Song (9/7 5:00 PM). Enjoy the light, the coolness of the water, and find out what’s in the river at this time of year. Esopus Meadows beach is a great place to catch young-of-the-year fish, blue crabs, and maybe even an eel. Bring a picnic for dinner afterwards and enjoy some music.
• Experience Rock Climbing in the Gunks (9/7, 9:00 AM). This event is open to participants of all ability levels. Alpine Endeavors will provide professional instruction with your own New York State Licensed and GA Certified guide based on a 4 to 1 climber to guide ratio. Come and visit some of the best climbing on the East Coast with the Ramble this year!
